If you’re a anime and manga lover and are planning on coming to Tokyo soon, you are probably wanting to visit Akihabara as your main place. Akihabara, also known as Akiba, is seen as a hub of all things otaku. The town is full of anime merchandise stores, cosplay shops, maid cafes, arcades and electronic stores! There is so much packed into the town that it can be hard to know which shops to visit. That’s why we’ve created this list of 10 MUST-VISIT shops in Akihabara Tokyo to help you know which shops to visit. 1. Radio Kaikan (ラジオ会館)

Radio Kaikan is a department store located in Akihabara, super close to the station exit. It has a variety of shops, all selling various ‘otaku’ goods. There are stores dedicated to anime merchandise, anime figurines, games, manga and much more! You will honestly end up spending ages in this department store as there is too much to see! A lot of these shops also sell vintage collectable items for fairly good prices, so if you are a collector of anime goods this is definitely the place to go. In Radio Kaikan, I recommend going to K-Books, AmiAmi and Aniplex+.

2. Akihabara Gamers (AKIHABARAゲーマーズ)

Akihabara Gamers is a store dedicated to all things anime, manga, games and voice actors! The best thing about this store is that it sells tons of merchandise from smaller animes that the main anime merchandise stores do not sell. If you like an anime that is not very popular but want to buy anime merchandise from it, make sure you check out this store as they may be selling some here. On top of this, the store sells super cute and unique accessaries for your game consoles/computers that you wouldn’t be able to get anywhere else! Also, if you love certain voice actors, you can buy merchandise of them here (crazy, I know)!!

3. Super Potato (スーパーポテト)

Super Potato

Super Potato is a fairly small shop in Akihabara, but that doesn’t take away from how amazing it is! It is a store that specializes in retro games and consoles. On the first floor, there are tons of retro arcade games for you to play with friends. On the floors above, the store sells TONS of retro games and games consoles. This place is perfect for all of those who love to feel a sense of nostalgia! It’s also a super fun and unique place to go and hang out with friends.

4. Gachapon Kaikan (ガチャポン開館)

Gachapons are small capsule prize machines available all over Japan. There are tons of varieties of machines, including anime merchandise, novelty goods and many more! Gachapon Kaikan is one of the biggest gachapon stores in Tokyo and is filled with he machines! If you’re looking to win a prize from a certain machine, this is definitely the place to go. They currently have tons of anime machines, including Demon Slayer, Sailor Moon and Haikyuu! themes ones! Each turn on the machine costs from 200-500 yen depending on what prizes are on offer.

5. SEGA Arcade (セガ秋葉原)

The SEGA arcade buildings are some of the most iconic and well known buildings, let alone arcades, in all of Tokyo. There are 5 SEGA arcade buildings dotted around Akihabara, each with different games and machines on offer. There are tons of gachapons, prize games and arcade games available to play in these buildings and it’s super fun to go here with your friends for a fun-filled day out!

6. Kotobukiya (コトブキヤ)

Kotobukiya

Kotobukiya is an amazing toy store located close to the Akihabara station. This store sells tons of merchandise from anime, games, films and much more! They also sell items for various hobbies such a figurine building and toy making. So if you’re into these kinds of hobbies, this is definitely somewhere that you should visit. Even if you’re not into these hobbies, the merchandise selection that is available at this store is very much worth going to visit it.

7. ACOS Akihabara (Acos秋葉原店)

ACOS is a very popular cosplay store with chains throughout Japan. Their main store is located in Akihabara, due to being the anime central of Japan. The store sells LOADS of cosplay items and sets, you really can find cosplay items for any anime here! They also sell wigs and special character items that would cannot be found elsewhere. If you’re interested in picking up good quality, authentic cosplay during your time in Tokyo, this is the place for you!!

8. Dragon Quest Lawson (ローソン外神田三丁目店)

The Dragon Quest themed Lawson in Akihabara is a konbini that is themed around the popular game series, Dragon Quest. The konbini is decorated with Dragon Quest items and even plays the Dragon Quest theme tune when you walk through the door. On top of this, you can buy TONS of Dragon Quest merchandise there, particularly that of the famous ‘slime’. So if you’re a gamer who particularly likes Dragon Quest, this is somewhere in Akihabara that you HAVE to go.
