Due to Japan literally creating anime, it comes as no surprise that Tokyo is a hub for all things anime and manga! This has lead to there gradually being more and more anime events being held in Tokyo every year! some of these include anime and manga conventions, anime themed cafes and MUCH MORE! These events are unlike any that you have experienced in your home country, they’re all on a whole new level!!
If you’re planning on going to Tokyo this year, and you want to experience the best anime events that Japan has to offer, keep on reading to find out some anime events being held this year that you HAVE to go to!
1. Evangelion Cafe and Diner
If you’re a fan of Neon Genesis Evangelion and you’re in Tokyo this June, this is somewhere you HAVE to go! The anime’s creator company has teamed up with Shibuya Parco’s ‘Tokyo Parade Goods and Cafe’ to bring you an amazing Evangelion themed cafe!
The food and layout of the cafe is going to be inspired by a traditional American diner and the menu is themed around all the anime’s main characters. The cafe is going to be based off of Evangelion art, which will include tons of color and original pieces! The cafe will also be selling tons of original merchandise! This is an anime event in Tokyo that you MUST visit!

2. Demon Slayer X Ufotable Merchandise Release
Demon Slayer and ufotable have collaborated once again to release some awesome new merchandise on the Ufotable website. The theme for the new merchandise is rainy season! This features the characters dressed up in different outfits and holding umbrellas! The characters all look super cute and the merchandise itself is great!

3. Comiket 2020
Comiket is one of Tokyo’s biggest anime conventions that is held twice a year! The convention is full of stalls that sell an array of anime merchandise and goods. There is also a section for independent manga artists to sell there manga, which is super fun to explore! Many people also attend this convention dressed up in cosplay, so if you’re someone who is in to cosplay make sure you take your costume with you to Tokyo!
Unfortunately, the summer event has been cancelled due to Covid-19, however the convention will be back in Tokyo this winter!

4. World Cosplay Summit
The World Cosplay Summit is a yearly cosplay event that takes place in Tokyo and involves cosplayers from all over the world coming to the event to show off their amazing costumes! Amateur cosplayers as well as professional cosplayers all join in on the event and you don’t even have to cosplay to go, many go to the event simply to admire other’s costumes!
The event will be full of cosplayers as well as tons of shows that cosplayers will perform in! On top of that, there are also stalls selling anime and cosplay goods as well as tons of photo spots! There is also competition running throughout the event that is called ‘the cosplay performance championships’, but you don’t have to take part in this to be a part of the event! If you’re in Tokyo and love cosplay, this is somewhere you HAVE to go!
