‘Durarara!!’ Real Life Locations in Tokyo

‘Durarara!!’ Real Life Locations in Tokyo

‘Durarara!!’, known as ‘デュラララ!!’ (dyurarara) in Japanese, is a popular anime that follows the stories of many people who make up some of the most dangerous people in Ikebukuro. Some of these types of people include, an underworld courier and an anonymous internet gang. The anime is super fun to watch and the story is unique and instantly catches the attention of viewers. Due to most of the anime being set in ‘Ikebukuro’ (a real life town in Tokyo) there are TONS of real life locations in the town that appeared in the anime! There are also tons of fun Durarara themed things to do in Ikebukuro. In this article we’re going to be taking you through some of these locations!

Sunshine Doori, Ikebukuro

How the Location Appears in The Anime

If you’re a lover of Durarara and you’re visiting Tokyo soon/ are currently in Tokyo, Sunshine Street in Ikebukuro is the first place you should go! There are SO many real life locations that appeared in the anime on this street and also so many scenes that were set here that you will truly feel like you’re in the anime!

The anime has done a great job of making the locations look as close to the real life place as possible which means it is super easy to recognize some of these places! I would highly recommend walking around this street to see how many places you recognize because there really are tons!

How To Get There

Sunshine Street, or Sunshine Doori, can be accessed straight after exiting the station from the west exit. The long street that leads out from the station is all part of Sunshine Doori and is where all the real life locations are located.

Sunshine 60 Street, Ikebukuro

How the Location Appears in The Anime

Sunshine 60 Street is considered by many the ‘main street’ of Ikebukuro. It is where all the arcades, otaku shops and cafes are located! Due to this, it is no surprise this location appears so much in the anime! There are tons of scenes that have been set on this street!

It is really funny to see how the anime has included the same real life shops in the anime but just slightly changed the name. For example, in the picture above the famous fast food shop ‘Lotteria’ appears in both the anime and in real life however the name has been changed to ‘Lottalia’ in the anime. It really shows the attention to detail and effort that the anime makers have put in to create realistic settings.

How To Get There

Sunshine 60 Street runs adjacent to Sunshine street, so it can be easily accessed after exiting the station.

East Ikebukuro Central Park

How the Location Appears in The Anime

This park is where Anri and Teijin run and escape to together. The park in the anime and in real life look almost identical to one another and the anime has done a great job of capturing the peacefulness and beauty of the park!

The park is located in Eastern Ikebukuro but is easy to get to from the other locations on this list. The park is great place to visit especially in the summer and it is a nice place to go to get away from the business of the city.

How To Get There

The park can be access via Sunshine 60 street and is an 8 minute walk away from the station making it super easy to access!
