My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission Review (NO SPOILERS)
My Hero Academia is one of the most popular anime and manga series of all time. The manga and anime series are still currently on-going with a new season recently being released. The anime series has two previous movies and has recently released a third, ‘My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission’. In this article we will review this movie telling you if it is worth watching and also letting you know where you can watch it! And don’t worry, this article is completely spoiler free!!

What is ‘My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission’?
My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission is the third move of the anime ‘My Hero Academia’, or Boku No Hero Academia (僕のヒーローアカデミア) in Japanese! Author of the manga, Kohei Horikoshi, was involved in the making and writing of this film even though he previously stated there would not be any more My Hero Academia movies. The story follows on from the previous Boku No Hero Academia Movie and also the recent manga chapters. However, the movie does not affect the main plot of the My Hero Academia movie!

How Does ‘My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission’ Fit into the Main Story?
Before we get into explaining how this movie fits into the main story of the My Hero Academia manga, we would first like to discuss if this movie can be considered ‘Canon’ or not. Canon is the label given by fans of fictional material when it is believed to be accepted as officially part of the story. So, can My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission be considered canon?
Is ‘My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission’ Canon?
Since the movie has been released, there has been much debate surrounding whether this movie can be considered ‘canon’ or not. So lets look at some points of why it can and can’t be considered canon.
Why can it be considered canon?
- The creation of the movie has involvement from the official My Hero Academia manga author, Kohei Horikoshi.
- It fits in with the main story line of the Boku No Hero Academia manga.
Why Can’t it be considered canon?
- The movie’s story does not affect the main story of the anime and manga.
- The movie can be skipped and the main anime/ manga will still be understood.
With these points in mind, can the new My Hero Academia movie be considered canon? Well in my opinion, I think that the answer is yes! Although the movie does not affect the official My Hero Academia storyline, Horikoshi has acknowledged this stating that the movies should be regarded as a sort of side adventure rather than part of the main storyline. This is nice as it allows people to still understand the anime and manga without watching them but gives them extra content to enjoy if they choose to watch them. On top of this, the official manga made reference to the previous two My Hero Academia movies, which shows that they are recognized by the official storyline! Due to this, I believe that this movie can be considered canon!
When Does ‘My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission’ Take Place in Relation to the Manga?
At first, it was difficult to tell when this movie took place in relation to the My Hero Academia official manga/anime. However, during the movie Todoroki makes a comment about how Bakugo, Deco and himself where currently doing the internship with Endeavor. This would suggest that the movie takes place during the time that the main characters where part of Endeavor’s internship. This has been confirmed by the My Hero Academia official website also!

Review of ‘My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission’: Is It Worth Watching?
If you’re a fan of the My Hero Academia manga or anime, you’re going to love this movie! Just like the previous two BNHA movies, it’s so nice to see the main characters on a sort of ‘side mission’ that is separate, and less serious to the main story line of the manga/anime. Having said that, I do believe that the previous two My Hero Academia movies were significantly better than this one. Although this movie was good and fun to watch, the fight scenes were not as good as the ones in the previous My Hero Academia movies/ the fight scenes in the anime and manga.
Sadly, we didn’t see Deku, Todoroki and Bakugo fighting together against a new enemy which is probably what most fans of Boku No Hero Academia were expecting. Having said that, the story was still very fun to watch and I do believe that it is worth watching, especially if you are a big fan of My Hero Academia!!
Now great point about this movie was the animation! Like which most new anime movies recently, such as Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, the animation was amazing! I believe that the animation of this movie was far better than the animation of the My Hero Academia anime, which made it even more fun to watch. Although the fight scenes were slightly disappointing in this new movie, the animation of them certainly made them more enjoyable to watch!!

Where Can I Watch ‘My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission’?
‘My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission’ is currently out in cinemas in Japan. If you are currently in Japan, you will be able to view the movie at most cinemas around the country! Due to the movie still being out in cinemas in Japan, the movie is not available for viewing on any legal streaming websites just yet.
If you are currently living outside of Japan, you are probably not going to be able to view the movie just yet. However, it is not all bad news as there has been talk of the My Hero Academia film getting released in cinemas overseas too! So make sure to keep up to date with your country’s cinema schedule to check if the film is coming to a cinema near you!
