If you’re visiting Japan and love all things anime and manga, then you’re going to be super busy as there are TONS of things to do in Tokyo that are anime and manga related. Whether it’s shopping for anime merchandise, visiting real life locations that appeared in anime or taking part in all the anime themed activities in Tokyo…there really is so much to do. In this article we’re going to be focusing on something which is a super fun activity for all anime lover, and that’s…visiting anime themed cafes and restaurants!!

There are both permanent and non-permanent anime cafes in Tokyo so that’s why we’ve decided to divide this list into two parts: Permanent anime cafes and cafes on for a limited amount of time in 2020. So keep scrolling to find out more!


Permanent Anime and Manga Cafes in Tokyo:

1. Sailor Moon Restaurant (Recently Closed)

In Tokyo there is a WHOLE restaurant that is dedicated to Sailor moon and is Tokyo’s first permanent Sailor Moon restaurant!! It opening recently in September 2019 and has been very popular since then! The restaurant features a full menu (which changes monthly), that is full of Sailor Moon themed food! On top of this, there is a live stage show where professional actors perform as different characters and do different dances that have been inspired by the anime!

2. Pokemon Cafe

This permanent Pokemon cafe which has opened in Tokyo recently, is truly everything Pokemon fans have dreamed of!! The cafe offers a full menu of super cute Pokemon themed food and drinks which are very tasty. The cafe is also decorated very cutely with pokemon decor all around it! If you’re lucky, you will also get the chance to meet chef Pikachu, who comes out to do a show sometimes throughout the day!
Although this cafe is a little on the pricey side, I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for anime themed cafes in Tokyo!

3. Sanrio Character Cafes

Did you know there are tons of permanent Sanrio themed cafes in Tokyo? pictured above is the Hello Kitty Cafe, Cinnamoroll Cafe and the Pompom Yurin cafe! Although Sanrio is not technically anime, I’m sure if you’re an otaku like me then you love everything Sanrio too! 4. Gundam Cafe

The Gundam Cafe located in Odaiba is a permanent cafe that really makes you feel like you’re a part of the Gundam world! You can eat Gundam themed food, drink character themed drinks and also buy tons of Gundam Merchandise in the shop that is located there! You can choose to take away your food or eat in the amazingly decorated cafe!

5. Cafe Mugiwara (Recently Closed)

Cafe Mugiwara is a One Piece themed cafe and restaurant that is located in Tokyo Tower! The cafe offers tons of One Piece themed food and drinks and the cafe itself is decorated with all the characters and merchandise from the anime.

Prices for food range from 900yen – 1,300yen and they have a selection of both sweet and savory food. If you’re a One Piece fan and are looking for some amazing anime cafes in Tokyo, this is somewhere you HAVE to go.

Non-Permanent Anime and Manga Cafes in Tokyo (Summer 2021):

1. Jujutsu Kaisen Cafe

AJujutsu Kaisen will be opening up a whole Jujutsu themed pop-up cafe in Tokyo and other parts of Japan this summer (2021). Unlike most other previous Jujutsu Kaisen cafes, this one will not be in collaboration with other companies and so the cafe will be completely sorted out by the company that created the anime. The cafe will be opening up in two locations in Tokyo (Ikebukuro and Harajuku), as well as opening up in Abeno, Nagoya and Umeda. Each location will open there cafe on the 15th of July 2021, but have different closing dates so make sure to check the official website before you go! The Harajuku location will be open for the longest with the closing date being the 12th of September 2021.nge from 800yen to 1,200yen and drinks are all 600yen! For every item you buy, you will receive a free Haikyuu!! coaster as a present!

2. Haikyu!! Donut Shop

Haikyu!! is collaborating with Decotto, this summer to bring a full Haikyu!! themed donut shop to Tokyo. The cafe will feature donuts based off of many of the characters as well as other Haikyu!! themed donuts. On top of this the cafe will be selling Haikyu!! and Haikyu!! character themed drinks. This is the perfect place to visit for all Haikyu!! lovers looking for a fun day out in Tokyo!
